Offline Google Maps in an Android app -


recently google released new version of google maps lets save offline version of particular chunk of map. @ same time i've been playing around making android app uses google maps api, , wondering... possible in way offline map , application use it? application doesn't need internet connection either?

i'm aware openstreetmap alternative don't think it'll work project have in mind.
